Member Satisfaction Survey
Later this month, you'll be receiving an electronic Member Satisfaction Survey from AIA Wisconsin. Your participation, feedback, comments and suggestions will be invaluable as the Board of Directors and local Chapter leaders discuss the results of the survey in early August as part of the annual long-range planning process. If you have any questions about the membership survey, please contact the AIA Wisconsin office.
Veto
On May 19, Governor Doyle vetoed 2009 Senate Bill 616 in its entirety. This so-called Wisconsin High Performance Green Building Bill would have established minimum energy efficiency and sustainability standards for certain state and local government buildings. In his veto message, the governor noted that, while the “underlying goals of the bill are laudable,” the specific language in the legislation made it “unworkable” and “extremely problematic.” Recognizing that green building practices can substantially reduce overall operating costs, the governor stated the legislation was drafted in such a way that all current state building maintenance projects would have been “delayed indefinitely.”
Wisconsin Architects Foundation
At its meeting last month, the WAF Board of Directors elected the following officers for 2010-11; President – A. James Gersich, AIA, Fitchburg; Vice President – Paula M. Verboomen, AIA, Milwaukee; and Secretary/Treasurer – John G. Horky, AIA, Wauwatosa. Dedicated to improving the quality of the built environment through research and education, the WAF relies on the generous support and tax-deductible contributions from friends and members like you.
Continuing Education Requirements
In April, the Wisconsin Examining Board of Architects, Landscape Architects, Professional Engineers, Designers and Land Surveyors approved new administrative rules [Chapter A-E 12] that establish minimum continuing education requirements for architects to renew their state license. The new continuing education rules for architects goes into effect July 1. The new rules will first apply when architects renew their next two-year Wisconsin license by August 2012. Architects will need 24 hours of continuing education, including 16 hours related to health, safety and welfare topics, every two years. The AIA is listed as an approved provider of continuing education programs; and architects can use the AIA/CES transcript to document their continuing education hours. To review the new requirements, go to: Wisconsin Continuing Education Requirements

Continuing Education Requirements
Last month, the Wisconsin Examining Board of Architects, Landscape Architects, Professional Engineers, Designers and Land Surveyors approved new administrative rules [Chapter A-E 12] that establish minimum continuing education requirements for architects to renew their state license. When the new continuing education rules for architects go into effect July 1, Wisconsin will become the 40th state [plus the District of Columbia] to require continuing education for license renewal. The rules include definitions and provisions related to specific requirements, standards for approval, proof of attendance, recordkeeping, exemptions and reciprocity. AIA Wisconsin worked with the Joint Examining Board and organizations representing other design professionals for the adoption of enabling legislation, 2007 Wisconsin Act 47. The Architect Section of the Joint Examining Board developed the new rules implementing the requirements for architects. To review the new requirements, go to: Wisconsin Continuing Education Requirements
Design Awards
Ten building projects were recognized for excellence in architectural design by the 2010 AIA Wisconsin Design Awards program. The celebration began with a special video during Architecture Night, included a special keynote address by Julie Snow, FAIA, and was followed by the formal presentation of awards to the architects, owners and contractors responsible for the award-winning projects. High Performance Green Building Bill
As a local newspaper proclaimed, it was “chaos at Capitol” as hundreds of bills faced an uncertain future as the regular session of the Wisconsin Legislature came to a close last month. AIA Wisconsin was monitoring about 30 bills with implications for architects and the state’s design and construction industry. Most died in committee at the end of the session. However, the so-called Wisconsin High Performance Green Building Bill [Senate Substitute Amendment 1 to 2009 Senate Bill 616] was approved by both houses in the final week and awaits the Governor’s signature to become law. For certain state and local government buildings, this legislation establishes minimum standards related to building performance [LEED silver], energy efficiency, construction waste recycling, ventilation, indoor air quality and water use. The Division of State Facilities is required to certify that plans and specifications for certain larger state projects conform to these standards. The bill also sets increasingly stringent standards so that by January 2030 state buildings must achieve zero net energy level performance. AIA Wisconsin attempted to amend the legislation to include reference to the International Green Construction Code [IGCC], an exception for projects for which there is no practical way to achieve a particular building rating system standard, liability protection for architects attempting in good faith to achieve the required building rating system standard, and an advisory committee with broad representation to assist Safety & Buildings in developing related building code requirements. The adopted legislation includes a reference to the IGCC. For information on this bill and other legislation, go to the Wisconsin Legislature website at: http://www.legis.state.wi.us/
ARE Timing
The Joint Examining Board also approved amending A-E 3.05 (2) to allow candidates with an accredited architecture degree and an IDP record with NCARB to be eligible to start taking the Architect Registration Exam [ARE] upon graduation. The new ARE timing rules are consistent with national AIA policy. To review these new rules, go to: A.R.E. Timing
IDP Six-Month Rule
On July 1, 2010, the so-called “Six-Month Rule” will apply to all interns with NCARB Intern Development Program [IDP] records. Interns must submit their experience in reporting periods of no longer than six months and within two months of completion of each reporting period. For additional information, visit www.ncarb.org.

State Legislative Update
The regular session of the Wisconsin Legislature is coming to a close. The last floorperiod for general business is scheduled to end on April 22. About 1,600 bills have been introduced during the current two-year session, with less than 200 approved and signed into law so far. This creates quite a logjam for the final week as hundreds of bills attempt to gain traction and advance through the legislative process. AIA Wisconsin has registered an interest in over 30 bills with potential impact on members and the profession. Most recently, attention has focused on proposed legislation related to qualifications-based selection of architects and engineers for local government projects [AB 654 & SB 442], high performance green building standards for state and local government projects [AB 843 & SB 616] and energy efficiency building code requirements [AB 649 & SB 450]. Keynote Addresses
The 2010 AIA Wisconsin Convention features three outstanding keynote speakers. On April 28, award-winning architect Joshua Prince-Ramus, president of REX in New York, will present The Boldt Company Keynote Address. This year’s Design Awards celebration also includes a special keynote address by Julie Snow, FAIA, of Julie Snow Architects, Minneapolis. Plus, award-winning Seattle architect David Miller, FAIA, Miller|Hull Partnership, will present the featured keynote address on April 29.
Design Seminars
This year's track of “design” seminars features presentations by an attractive mix of speakers that will illustrate the power of architecture. Jennifer Siegal, Assoc. AIA, founder of the Los Angeles-based firm Office of Mobile Design (OMD), will explore why the logic of industrial construction combined with the logic of minimal site impact to create more sustainable and surprisingly rich architectural projects. Thanks to IIDA Wisconsin, Eileen Jones, with Perkins + Will, will highlight several case studies where a branded environment approach solved myriad issues, from recruiting and retaining employees to increasing brand recognition. Andrew Metter, FAIA, senior vice president and design studio director with Epstein in Chicago, will explore projects and concepts illustrating the inherent connection between architecture and infrastructural urban networks. Award-winning architect Ann Beha, FAIA, founder and president of Ann Beha Architects in Cambridge, will examine projects that incorporate historic and contemporary design, while meeting regulatory criteria and introducing the highest design standards.
Practice Seminars
Convention “practice” seminars feature presentations by experts on emerging nuts-and-bolts issues shaping the practice of architecture. Matthys Levy, chairman emeritus of the international engineering firm Weidlinger Associates, will outline opportunities to collaborate with design team members to achieve superior buildings and evaluate changes in architectural practice in response to economic slowdown. Invited back by popular demand, Grant Simpson, FAIA, and James Atkins, FAIA, will present two seminars—One on project management issues and the other on risk management practices.
Sustainability Seminars
The “sustainability” seminar presentations will offer practical solutions that you can put to good use. Plus, AIA members can earn sustainable design (SD) AIA/CES learning unit hours. Rebecca Ellis, president of Questions & Solutions Engineering, will examine the process of new construction commissioning and help you understand the costs and benefits and how the commissioning process can be applied to existing buildings. Leith Sharp, founding director of the Office of Sustainability at Harvard University and an international expert in greening higher education, will explore what the green building experience can teach us about changing organizations. Abby Vogen Horn, director of energy incentives from We Energies at Franklin Energy Services, will examine critical daylighting design techniques and considerations.
Spotlight Seminars
In addition, exhibitors will be sponsoring free “spotlight” seminars in conjunction with the Building Products Expo. These 90-minute seminars are schedule immediately prior to the opening of the Expo on April 28 and right after the Expo closes on April 29.
Special Events
Numerous special events have been designed with you in mind. On April 28, you'll want to participate in the Construction Industry Reception in the Expo and the “Emerging Professionals Workshop” presented by Harry Falconer, AIA, with NCARB. Plus, plan to join the celebration of “Architecture Night!” at 6:00 p.m. in the Expo. This year’s Design Awards celebration includes a special keynote address by Julie Snow, FAIA, at 7:00 p.m. in the Lecture Hall. On April 29, get your day off to a great start at the WCMA Excellence in Masonry Awards Breakfast, renew your energy with a “walking lunch” as you tour the displays in the Expo, and participate in the “Future Fellows of Wisconsin” workshop with Craig Rafferty, FAIA, and Ray Greco, FAIA, to demystify the Fellowship nomination process. State Legislature Update
There has been quite a bit of legislative activity since last month’s eNews. The Wisconsin Senate voted 19-14 to approve proposed landscape architecture practice legislation [2009 Assembly Bill 142] and send it on to the Governor for his signature. While members made an effort to contact Senate leaders, an amendment suggested by AIA Wisconsin to provide a clear and unambiguous exemption for architects was not introduced for consideration by the full Senate. Committees in both the Assembly and Senate held public hearings earlier this month on proposed legislation [Assembly Bill 654 and Senate Bill 442] to require municipalities, counties, school districts and other local governments to use a qualifications-based selection [QBS] process when hiring architects, engineers and other design professionals for public building projects of $250,000 or more that are funded in part by the state. QBS Committee members Jon Jenson, AIA, Madison, and Mark Herr, AIA, Brookfield, testified in support of this legislation that AIA Wisconsin has been collaborating on with ACEC of Wisconsin for the past several legislative sessions. Public hearings also are being held on the Governor’s proposed “Clean Energy Jobs Act” [Assembly Bill 649 and Senate Bill 450]. Last week, Keith Allen Spruce, AIA, Milwaukee, the AIA Wisconsin representative on the Safety & Buildings Division HVAC Advisory Code Council, testified before the Senate Select Committee on Clean Energy on the code-related energy efficiency provisions contained in this legislation. Please contact AIA Wisconsin if you are interested in learning more about any of these legislative proposals. For information on your state legislators and proposed legislation, please visit the Wisconsin Legislature website at: http://www.legis.state.wi.us/

Landscape
Architecture Legislation
Proposed
landscape architecture practice legislation, 2009 Assembly Bill 142,
passed the Wisconsin Assembly last year and may be considered by the
Wisconsin Senate early this year. AIA Wisconsin believes it is important
to amend the proposed legislation to provide a clear and unambiguous
exemption for architects. Existing state statutes and related administrative
rules govern the use of the title “landscape architect” but not the
practice of landscape architecture. AB 142 would create a “practice”
law by requiring state credentials to provide landscape architecture
services, with certain exceptions. Architects traditionally have provided
many of the professional services included in the definition of landscape
architecture. As drafted, without a clear exemption for architects,
the proposed legislation may create more confusion than clarity for
the public. Please contact your State Senator today about AB 142. Your
call, letter or email could make the difference. For information on
the Wisconsin Legislature, including how to contact your State Senator,

QBS
Legislation
Proposed
QBS legislation, 2009 Senate Bill 442, has been introduced and referred
to the Senate Committee on Ethics Reform and Government Operations,
chaired by Sen. Fred Risser [D-Madison]. The legislation would require
municipalities, counties and school districts to use a qualifications-based
selection [QBS] process when hiring architects, engineers, land surveyors,
landscape architects and other professional consultants for public works
and building projects of $250,000 or more that are funded in part by
the state. AIA Wisconsin is working with ACEC of Wisconsin in support
of this QBS legislation for local governments. State administrative
rules require the use of QBS for the selection of architects for state
building projects. QBS also is required for federal projects. As a public
service, AIA Wisconsin has been assisting public owners in Wisconsin
establish a QBS process for the selection of architects and consulting
engineers for their projects since 1986. For information on the QBS
Wisconsin program, go to: http://www.qbswi.org .
State
Project Delivery Legislation
A
joint public hearing was held last month by the Senate Committee on
Ethics Reform and Government Operations and the Assembly Committee on
Consumer Protection on proposed legislation, 2009 Senate Bill 298 and
2009 Assembly Bill 427, related to the use of alternative project delivery
methods for state building projects. The companion legislation was introduced
in both houses at the request of the State Building Commission. AIA
Wisconsin testified in support of the provisions in the proposed legislation
that would allow the use of single prime contracting without requiring
a waiver by the Building Commission and that would allow the development
of administrative rules governing the use of alternative project delivery
methods on state projects as approved by the Building Commission through
its existing waiver authority. AIA Wisconsin did not support proposed
provisions that would allow the use of construction manager at-risk
without requiring a waiver by the Building Commission. The four-hour
hearing included testimony in support and in opposition to the legislation.
For a copy of AIA Wisconsin testimony on this proposed project delivery
legislation, go to: http://bit.ly/5EapCB .
“Clean
Energy Jobs Act” Legislation
Last
week, companion legislation, 2009 Assembly Bill 649 and 2009 Senate
Bill 450, was introduced in the Wisconsin Legislature at the request
of the Governor that would, among many other things, set goals for reductions
in greenhouse gas emissions, the construction of zero net energy buildings
and energy conservation. For example, the proposed legislation would
set as a goal that by 2030 each newly constructed residential or commercial
building in Wisconsin will use no more energy than is generated on-site
using renewable resources. To take a look at the 174-page legislation,
go to: http://www.legis.state.wi.us/2009/data/AB-649.pdf

Continuing
Education & License Renewal
The
Rules Committee of the Examining Board of Architects, Landscape Architects,
Professional Engineers, Designers and Land Surveyors held public hearings
in October on proposed state administrative rules related to amending
the definitions of supervision, direct supervision, responsible charge,
and direction and control; amending exam entrance requirements to allow
candidates with an accredited architecture degree and an IDP record
with NCARB to begin taking the ARE upon graduation; and creating continuing
education requirements for architects to renew their license. AIA Wisconsin
testified in support of the proposed ARE-timing rules and continuing
education rules. The proposed continuing education rules would require
architects to have 24 hours, including 16 hours related to health, safety
and welfare issues, every two years for license renewal. AIA/CES transcripts
would be acceptable documentation. The proposed rules, which require
legislative review, would become effective beginning with license renewal
in August 2012.

“Report:
State hunters shot fewer buildings | MADISON – A state report says deer
hunters shot dramatically fewer buildings during Wisconsin's November
gun hunt. A Department of Natural Resources report says hunters shot
10 buildings. That's down from 25 in 2008, 19 in 2007 and 15 in 2006.
Authorities determined the identity of the shooter in five of the incidents.
Four of the shootings involved a rifle and another four a shotgun. The
weapon in the remaining two incidents was unknown.” [ Wisconsin

Building Code Update
The
timeline for adopting the 2009 IBC was discussed at the most recent
Commercial Building Code Council meeting. Joe Jurkiewicz, AIA, Grafton,
the AIA Wisconsin representative on this advisory council, reports that,
at this point, public hearings on the proposed 2009 codes are scheduled
for May 2010. After the hearings, the Department of Commerce has until
the end of August to forward a proposed code package to the Legislature
for review. If everything goes smoothly and there are no major glitches
identified, the earliest the 2009 code provisions would become effective
would be January 2011. The next Commercial Building Code Council meeting
is scheduled for January 21, 2010, at which time it hopes to finalize
the code package that will go out for the public hearings.

State
BIM Guidelines & Standards
The
Wisconsin Department of Administration, Division of State Facilities
(DSF), has announced the implementation of BIM Guidelines and Standards
that will apply to the selection of architects and engineers on or after
7/1/09 for the following state building projects: all construction with
total project funding of $5 million or greater, all new construction
with total project funding of $2.5 million or greater, and all addition/alteration
construction with total project funding of $2.5 million that includes
new addition costs of 50% or more of total. Use of the BIM guidelines
will be encouraged, but not required, on all other state building projects.
According to the DSF announcement, architects and engineers were selected
for nearly 700 projects in the 2007-09 biennium; and, applying these
criteria, the BIM guidelines would have been required for less than
40 of these projects, but these projects represented 60% of the advertized
project budgets. Information on the new BIM guidelines is available
on the DSF website.

State
Budget
For
the first time since 1977, Wisconsin enacted its two-year state budget
prior to the July 1 start of the new biennium. The $62 billion state
budget includes many items, many of which are still being discovered.
AIA Wisconsin supported adequate funding for the state building program
and opposed proposals to amend joint and several liability provisions
and expand the sales tax to architectural and other professional services.
The good news is that the state budget includes a slight increase in
funding for the state building program and does not include
liability law changes or a sales tax expansion.

State
Budget
The
2009-11 state budget bill, 2009 Assembly Bill 75, currently resides
in the Wisconsin Assembly on its way to the Wisconsin Senate and, ultimately,
the Governor's desk. AIA Wisconsin supports funding for the state building
program recommended by the State Building Commission and is opposed
to proposals that would revise statutory provisions related to “joint
and several liability.” AIA Wisconsin also is part of a coalition of
allied organizations opposed to proposals that would expand the state
sales tax to architectural and other professional and business services.
Now is the time to make connections with your state legislators and
let them know your position on these and other budget issues. For information
on the Wisconsin Legislature, go to: http://www.legis.state.wi.us/
.
Landscape
Architecture Legislation
Proposed
landscape architecture practice legislation, 2009 Assembly Bill 142,
has passed the Wisconsin Assembly. AIA Wisconsin believes that it is
important for the legislation to be amended in the Wisconsin Senate
to add a clear and unambiguous exemption for architects. Please contact
your State Senator to encourage them to support such an amendment. Existing
state statutes and related administrative rules govern the use of the
title “landscape architect” but not the practice of landscape architecture.
AB 142 would create a “practice” law by requiring state credentials
to provide landscape architecture services, with certain services excluded
from the definition. Architects traditionally have provided many of
the professional services included in the definition of landscape architecture.
As drafted, without a clear exemption for architects, the proposed legislation
may create more confusion than clarity for the public. For information
on the Wisconsin Legislature, including how to contact your State Senator,
go to: http://www.legis.state.wi.us/
Sustainable
Design Workshop
Save the date . . . the 2009 AIA Wisconsin Fall Workshop is

Director-At-Large
Candidates
If you are interested in helping to shape AIA Wisconsin policies and
programs, please consider tossing your hat in the ring as a candidate
for Director-At-Large. Three Directors-At-Large will be elected by the
membership this fall to a two-year term beginning January 2010. There
also are many valuable leadership opportunities with your local AIA
Chapter. For further information, contact the AIA
Wisconsin office.

Contract Documents
Earlier
this year, the American Institute of Architects (AIA) released an updated
version of the software that incorporates several important enhancements,
including the ability to view and manage your projects and documents
in one place. As of May 31, 2009, AIA retired a number of AIA contract
documents including most 1997 versions. AIA replaces documents approximately
every 10 years to ensure that the content reflects current industry
and legal requirements. For FAQs about contract documents and software
updates as well as a list of all the documents that are retired/replaced,

Joint
Finance Committee
The
2009-11 state budget bill, 2009 Assembly Bill 75, now resides in the
Joint Committee on Finance. This powerful legislative committee is reviewing
the Governor's budget proposals and will be submitting its own budget
recommendations to the Legislature in June, if all goes according to
plan. Over the next month, members of the Joint Finance Committee will
be deciding, for example, whether to increase or decrease funding for
the state building program recommended by the Building Commission and
may even consider proposals to expand the sales tax to architectural
and other professional services in an attempt to balance the state budget.
Now is the time to get to know members of this committee and let them
know your position on these and other budget issues. Here is link to
information on the Joint Committee on Finance: http://www.legis.state.wi.us/lfb/jfc.html
.
State
Budget & Liability
According
to the most recent estimates, the projected state budget deficit for
the next biennium has grown by another $1 billion to over $6 billion.
This will make it more tempting for state legislators to cut funding
for the state building program and expand the sales to professional
services in order to balance the 2009-11 budget. The Joint Committee
on Finance currently is developing its budget recommendations. In addition
to these important tax and spending issues, the Governor's budget bill,
2009 Assembly Bill 75, also contains significant changes in state liability
law that could adversely affect the design and construction industry.
For example, budget bill provisions would roll back the clock to allow
anyone found to have equal or greater fault than the plaintiff to be
held 100% responsible (“jointly and severally liable”) even if only
1% at fault. In the 1990s, AIA Wisconsin was a member of the Coalition
for Civil Justice that was successful in getting tort reform legislation
adopted to require that a person be at least 51% at fault before they
can be held responsible for 100% of the damages awarded.

all greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumed in the U.S. each year.
The American Institute of Architects is committed to the goal of reaching
at least a 60 percent carbon emission reduction by 2010 and carbon neutral
buildings by 2030. We can achieve that goal through the support of our
architect members, who stand ready to provide invaluable counsel on

AIA/CES
& Sustainable Design
In
2008, the AIA Board of Directors voted to modify annual AIA/CES requirements
to include a minimum four hours of continuing education in sustainable
design (SD). Effective January 2009, four of the 18 annual learning
unit hours required of AIA Architect members must focus on sustainable
design. Learning units that qualify for sustainable design will also
apply to the annual health, safety, and welfare (HSW) requirement. The
AIA/CES team is working with AIA Continuing Education System (CES) Registered
Providers to offer members more education opportunities to fulfill this
new requirement. You may also report programs offered by non-AIA/CES
providers that meet the sustainable design qualifying criteria through
the Structured Self-Report Program. Remember, however, that self-designed
educational activities do not qualify for either SD or HSW learning
units. Program content qualifies for sustainable design learning units
based on the AIA Committee on the Environment (COTE) “Top Ten Measures
of Sustainable Design” and the AIA Sustainable Discussion Group's (SDiG)
“50to50” carbon reduction strategies. For additional information about
the new sustainable design requirement, please go to: http://www.aia.org/ces_default

DHS
Preliminary & Courtesy Plan Reviews
The
Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) offers “preliminary” plan
reviews for hospital and nursing home projects (or others that are attached
to these occupancies) according to HFS 124.29 (1) for code issues that
can be resolved during the design process and “courtesy” plan reviews
for business and ambulatory occupancies that are not attached to a hospital
and nursing home, but receive federal funds because they bill CMS using
a hospital provider number. These plan reviews are performed by the
DHS at no cost. Depending on the complexity of the project, more than
one preliminary plan review is possible. Courtesy plan reviews are dependent
on staff availability. These plan review opportunities are the result
of a committee of DHS leadership, healthcare facility managers, contractors
and architects that has been working to improve the process. For additional
details, contact AIA Wisconsin or the DHS Division of Quality Assurance/Bureau
of Health Services (DQA/BHS).

State Legislative Agenda
Members
of AIA Wisconsin have an interest in numerous public policy issues being
addressed by local, state and federal officials. This interest extends
beyond proposed legislation and administrative rules that directly affect
the profession of architecture to include proposals that impact Wisconsin's
design and construction industry, economic climate, quality of life,
natural environment, and public health, safety and welfare. AIA Wisconsin's
2009 State Legislative Agenda addresses a variety of issues, including
funding for the state building program, expansion of the sales tax to
professional services, continuing education requirements for license
renewal, ARE timing, and qualifications-based selection of architects.
Please contact AIA Wisconsin for a summary.
State
Building Program
The
governor and state legislators face many difficult choices as they develop
state budget recommendations for the 2009-11 biennium. Because of a
projected deficit of over $5 billion, an open and deliberate budget
development process will be important to balance many competing demands
on limited resources. AIA Wisconsin supports a capital budget for the
biennium that provides adequate funding for the state building program,
including repairs, maintenance, remodeling and new construction. Investing
in the state building program and other necessary infrastructure improvements
provides a direct stimulus to Wisconsin's economy, with each dollar
of construction spending estimated to generate $2.20 in economic activity.
The state is the largest building owner in Wisconsin, with over 6,200
buildings and an estimated backlog of building maintenance needs of
over $1.2 billion, including UW System facilities. To protect this significant
investment, reduce energy costs in the future and help stimulate additional
economic activity, it is important to not only adequately fund, but
also accelerate the state building program.
Sales
Tax Expansion
AIA
Wisconsin is opposed to state budget proposals that would expand the
sales tax to architectural and other professional services because they
would adversely affect attempts to turn around the state's economy.
Such a state tax increase would place Wisconsin architectural firms
at a competitive disadvantage, impede economic activity by increasing
front-end development costs, hit small businesses the hardest, and create
significant administrative and compliance problems. AIA Wisconsin is
part of a coalition of like-minded professional organizations fighting
sales tax expansion initiatives.

Commercial Building Code

a lending library of Architect Registration Examination (ARE) study
materials from Kaplan AEC Education that cover all sections of the ARE
exam. The ARE lending library consists of ARE 3.1 and 4.0 divisions.
The materials are available to Associate AIA members and can be checked
out of the office for a period of 14 days. For details, read the ARE
Lending Library Policies . Contact
AIA
Wisconsin to confirm availability.
LegaLine
AIA Wisconsin has an agreement with Charles Heuer, FAIA, Esq., and
LegaLine. This unique service offered through the AIA Trust allows members
a one-time opportunity to talk with an attorney for "free"
about issues related to contracts, intellectual property law and other
practice issues. One AIA Wisconsin member who recently took advantage
of the LegaLine service reported that he "found it to be a tremendous
help!" Contact the AIA
Wisconsin office for more information.
Citizen
Architects
The
national AIA has asked for our help in identifying AIA Wisconsin members
who also are elected or appointed members of state and local government
boards or commissions. The idea is to use this information to develop
programs that support architects currently in these positions and to
encourage other architects interested in these opportunities for civic
engagement. If you are an appointed member of a county, city, school
district or other local government board or commission, please let the
AIA Wisconsin office know the name of the board or commission, who appointed
you and when your term expires. Similarly, if you are an elected member
of a county board, city council, school board or other elected office,
please let us know the name of your position and when your term expires.
Thank you for your civic leadership and help with this AIA survey. Please
reply to: aiaw@aiaw.org .
