Wisconsin Architects Convention & Expo on May 10 & 11

2006 AIA Wisconsin Convention & Expo Community logoMadison (March 27, 2006)— AIA Wisconsin, the state society of The American Institute of Architects, will hold its 75 th annual Convention & Building Products Expo on May 10 & 11 at the Monona Terrace Community & Convention Center in Madison.

The theme for the 2006 AIA Wisconsin Convention & Expo is “commUNITY.” According to Madison architect and conference chair David Ewanowski, AIA, “This year's program of speakers and seminars will explore the unique community of architectural practice as well as how architects interact and collaborate with others to shape livable and sustainable communities.”

Convention keynote speakers include Joel Hirschhorn , author, outspoken critic of urban sprawl and former director of natural resource policy studies at the National Governors Association, and Jorge Silvetti , Assoc. AIA, a professor of architecture at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design and co-founder of the award-winning architecture firm Machado and Silvetti Associates.

Professional development seminars will focus on emerging design, practice, community development and environmental topics. Other special Convention events will include the presentation of the 2006 AIA Wisconsin Design Awards, for excellence in architectural design, 2006 Golden Award, for distinguished service to the profession of architecture, and 2006 Architecture Firm Award, for outstanding achievement in the advancement of the architectural profession.

The Building Products Expo will feature over 175 displays by the leading manufacturers and suppliers of products and services for Wisconsin 's design and construction industry. The Expo in the Exhibit Hall at Monona Terrace will be open to the public on both days of the AIA Wisconsin Convention.

With over 1,500 members, AIA Wisconsin represents architects in private practice, business, industry, government and education.
